Breve Presentación

Jérôme Grimplet is a researcher in Plant Science department of CITA working on topics related to fruit crops, mostly grapes and Prunus using functional and structural genomics approaches. With an initial formation in cognitive sciences, he acquired knowledge on genomics and bioinformatics tools as well as on crop physiology during his PhD (2001-2004) at the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) in Montpellier, work that was awarded the Leopold Escande prize. During the postdoctoral stage, he delved into aspects of plant physiology during reproductive development and in response to water and cold stress, developing integrated approaches. At the University of Nevada, Reno (USA, 2005-07) he studied the molecular behavior of grape tissues during ripening and under water stress. From 2007 to 2009, at South Dakota State University, he developed systems biology tools to investigate tolerance to some abiotic stresses in grapevine, among others. In 2012 he joined the Institute of Grapevine and Wine Sciences (JAE-Doc) and was awarded a Ramon y Cajal fellowship to pursue his research, where he continued to develop systems biology approaches for grapevine. He has obtained a tenured agricultural researcher position at CITA to develop genomics projects applied to crop improvement. He maintains collaborations with leading plant genomics laboratories in the USA, France, Spain, Germany and Italy, as well as recently serving on the pilot committee of the Grapedia initiative. He taught at the University of Zaragoza for 3 years in the Quantitative Biotechnology Master. He directed 2 PhD theses.

He has produced a total of 65 JCR publications, most of which have had an impact on the scientific community, generating a high number of citations (an average of 52 per article and a total of 3849 to date), which is reflected in his h-index (28). He also has to his credit 9 contributions in book chapters and proceedings and 89 oral presentations.

His work has unraveled abiotic stress response mechanisms and has helped to identify molecular markers to improve crop quality and adaptability to adverse climatic conditions. Throughout his career he has applied and/or developed different bioinformatics concepts and tools that have allowed him, firstly, to acquire an excellent understanding of molecular and biological mechanisms in non-model species and, as a consequence, to participate at an international level in the management and processing of information from computational technologies for massive data. All this qualifies him to carry out the objective related to transcriptomic studies in the present project, assuming the analysis of the data that will be derived from them, as well as helping to unravel their biological \"meaning\".
