Short Presentation

Dr. González achieved the Degree in Agronomical Engineering in 2002 at the Public University of Navarre and PhD in Food Science and Technology in 2007 at University of Zaragoza. Packaging engineering and effects of modified atmosphere on quality and safety of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables were his major research lines. The candidate is the author of 15 articles in international journals of high impact (J. Food Eng., Postharvest Biol. Technol., Int. J. Food Microbiol., etc.). He is the first author in more than 50% of the published articles. He is also the author of 3 book chapters and he has presented 30 communications to national and international conferences, including 9 oral and 1 invited oral presentation. He is the inventor of a utility model related to food packaging and now is preparing two more patents related to edible packaging.

Dr. González took part in the initial staff of the emerging Research Centre CITA La Rioja, where he contributed to defining main lines of research and implementing laboratories and the pilot plant facilities. Afterward, he was employed by Agrovalle as R&D manager, developing new product ranges, particularly fresh-cut produce. He was awarded an Innoval Prize in 2008 with the development of the first fresh-cut vegetables mix into a microwaveable pouch marketed in Spain. The candidate had a 36 month post-doc position through the Programme Torres Quevedo from MICINN at AITIIP Technological Centre. More recently, he had a post-doc position at Michigan State University working in a multi-state project coordinated by Dr. Ryser (MSU) and financed by the USDA-NIFSI initiative. After a few months working in the USA, he was granted with a 3-year Marie Curie IOF Fellowship by the European Comission to continue his own research line in the School of Packaging, Michigan State University (USA).

Jaime González was the PI of a 6 million € Large Collaborative Project, coordinated by AITIIP Foundation (ref: CP-IP FP7-NMP-2011-LARGE-5-280676-2).  Furthermore, he has participated in more than 20 research projects, including 1 international (USDA-NIFSI), 2 European projects (FP7), and 8 national ones (CICYT, CDTI, MICINN, Government of Aragon, Government of Navarre or “La Caixa” Foundation). Moreover, the candidate has participated in 20 contracts with leading companies in the food industry (Rohm&Haas, Cárnicas Floristán, Gutarra, Orchard Fruit) and has been the PI in some of them.

In 2010, he created the spin-off company Tecnopackaging, highly specialized in plastic packaging, and involved in many research projects at National and European levels (FP7, H2020). This company currently has more than 10 workers and bills around 1 million euro/year.

He has ten years of teaching experience, collaborating in different seminars in the Food Technology Grade (UZ), the Quality, Security and Food Technology Master (UZ), and PKG 322 and PKG 491 (MSU). Furthermore, he has been very active in outreach activities since 2007, giving public talks and courses, seminars, organising public group activities in postharvest technology, and taking part in the organizing committee of the Iberian Symposium on Postharvest in 2008 and 2020.

Recently, he has been granted with a 5-year INIA-DOC Grant to develop his research at CITA Aragón. During the first two years, he was able to launch a packaging laboratory equipped with a Mocon Permatran-W 3/34, a Mocon Ox-tran 2/22, a laboratory heat sealer, and a laboratory hot-press.
